PORTAGEVILLE - Gladys French Smith, 86, died April 12, 2004, at her home.
Born Jan. 28, 1918, in New Madrid County, she was the daughter of the late William Robert and Margaret-Ann Elizabeth Davidson House.
In 1934, she married Amos French who preceded her in death. She and Roy Smith were married in 1969 and he died in 1983.
Survivors include: one son, Michael French of Portageville; three daughters, Sharon Paylor of Memphis, Tenn., Karen Baxter of Portageville and Juanita Henley of Cape Girardeau; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margie Todd of Sikeston, Betty and Leland Butler of Portageville and Ruby and B.J. Rooker of New Madrid; nine grandchildren, Danny Boone of Cape Girardeau, Anne Johnson and Eddie French of Portageville, Laura Paylor and Mary Katherine Paylor of Memphis, Benjie French, Jordan French, Jeremy Silman and Kasey Silman of Portageville; six great-grandchildren, Robert Winschel of Arnold, Matthew Stewart of Jacksonville, N.C., Paul Stewart of Cape Girardeau, Amber Ivie of Malden and Kayla Johnson and Jennifer French of Portageville; and one great-great-grandson, Drake Winschel-Conrad of Arnold.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Gene French; one granddaughter, Lizabeth "Libby" Boone; three sisters, Mary Webber, Florence Hawkins and Thelma Faye House; and four brothers, Luther House, Raymond House, Steven William House and Robert Eugene House.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Portageville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sharon Howard and Leland Butler will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Doug Hawkins, David Hawkins, Charles Hawkins, Jeff House, Bobby Rooker and Colin Hawkins.
