SIKESTON - Pvt. Newton Carroll, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carroll, is in training with the artillery at Fort Knox, Ky.
BENTON - In order for the office of the Scott County prosecuting attorney in the court house at Benton to be kept open. Prosecuting Attorney M.E. Montgomery of Sikeston announced this week the appointment of D. W. Gilmore, Benton attorney, as his assistant.
CHARLESTON - A complaint was made by 10 Negro men and women, most of whom live in the vicinity of the Clay County Cotton Company's gin in Charleston. The group appeared before the Charleston City Council and according to the delegation the gin recently installed high-speed equipment including a lint collector which blows lint into area gardens.

SIKESTON - Approximately 300 persons attended the 12th annual banquet of the Swampeast Missouri Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. The banquet and auction which followed raised money for waterfowl and wildlife conservation.
SIKESTON - Bob Knabel, Sikeston city manager, spoke on his recent trip to Japan as part of Gov. John Ashcroft's Missouri trade delegation. Knabel stated that the trip was interesting and promising, with many exciting opportunities available for the representatives.
SIKESTON - Southeast Missouri's number is up. Beginning Jan. 8, 1996, the new 573 area code will serve all of the former 314 area code region except for metropolitan St. Louis. The metropolitan area retains the 314 area code listing.
MOREHOUSE - Members of the Morehouse 620 club will sponsor their annual ham and bean supper this Saturday. Adults will pay $3, children 12 and under will be charged $1.50. Proceeds will fund the Sr. Citizens Christmas party.
