Floy Gruen

NEW ATHENS, Ill. - Floy Jones Gruen, 90, formerly of Lilbourn, Mo., died Jan. 29, 2004, in New Athens.

Born Feb. 9, 1913, in Canalou, daughter of the late Leslie Logan and Coela Greer Arbuckle, she was a retired grade school teacher. During her teaching career, she taught in Charter Oak, Canalou, Kendell, St. Louis and Lilbourn, Mo., before retiring. Active with the Daughters of the American Revolution, she was registrar of the New Madrid Chapter of Lucy Jefferson Lewis DAR and was a member of American Legion Post 1000 in Dexter, Mo.

Her first husband, Orval Jones, preceded her in death in 1958. She later married Elmer Gruen who died in 1977.

Survivors include: one son, Alva C. Jones of Freeburg; two daughters, Freda Smith of Lilbourn and Reba E. Jones of New Athens; two sisters, Norma Ellen Busby of Lilbourn and Leora Alice Newman of Portageville, Mo.; and 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were one son, Arlynn Jones; one grandson, Bradley Jones; one granddaughter, Jean Ellen Lemasters; and one son-in-law, George Smith.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. today until service time at 3 p.m. at the New Madrid Church of Christ. Dale Grissom and Ed Thomason will officiate.

Burial will follow in Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.
