OGDEN, Utah - In the early hours of Nov. 21, 2006, Mary Phillips Smith's spirit peacefully rose to a new life. She is now with her beloved husband, Harley R. Smith, who preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1993.
Mary was born Jan. 25, 1908, in Florence, Vt., to Henry O. and Ida Flanders Phillips. She attended Castleton Normal School in Vermont and became an elementary school teacher.
She married Harley on July 12, 1935, in Pittsford, Vt. They lived most of their married life in Pennsylvania, Virginia and her beloved Vermont.
Her children and their spouses, Carol and Rex Easley of Ogden and David and Carol Smith of Sikeston, Mo., survive her. She is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren in Texas, Tennessee and Missouri; two sisters and one brother and their spouses, Louise and Charles Sanderson of Vermont, Jean Gallus of New York and Jack and Gloria Phillips of North Carolina; also sisters-in-law, Delia Phillips of Vermont and Christine Sandwall of Florida; and many special nieces and nephews.
Her love reached across the miles to family and friends often, as she loved to pen letters and spoiled those who received them.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Vermont where she will go home to rest with her husband.
