SIKESTON - The Rev. Sylvester Morgan, 84, died Nov. 28, 2006, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Jan. 4, 1922, in Johnstown, Miss., to the late Sylvester and Ethel Roberts Morgan, he was a U.S. Army veteran. On Jan. 19, 1957, in Cairo, Ill., he became an ordained minister and pastored for 17 years in Chicago and for 25 years at Travelers' Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston.
Survivors include: his wife, Karen Morgan of the home; two sons, Hardy Garrett of Springfield, Ill., and Jeffrey Watkins of Newport News, Va.; one daughter, Sylvia James of Chicago; one brother, Authur Lee Samelton of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters, Lola Caruthers of Dade City, Fla., and Ethel Houston of Chicago; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until time of services to begin at noon Saturday at the Cornerstone Baptist Church. The Rev. Victor Williams, pastor of Freewill Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston with Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston in charge of arrangements.
