SIKESTON - City Manager Raymert Miller told the Optimist Club at the Rustic Rock that, "Sikeston does not have any youth delinquency problems. I was surprised when I found that a small percentage of our traffic violations were caused by our young people."

SIKESTON - A lateral storm sewer to be instrumental in helping clear surface water in low spots will be completed today or tomorrow.

SIKESTON - Peter C. Myers Sr. of Washington, D.C., deputy secretary of agriculture, received the 1986 Agri-Business Service Award during the 17th Annual Farmers Recognition Banquet Tuesday evening. Myers, formerly of Matthews, received the award from Dr. Sam Hunter.

SIKESTON - Operation CARE begins at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and continues through midnight on Sunday. Missouri State Highway Patrol Lt. Jim McNiell, satellite commander said, "Normally, the Thanksgiving holiday is a deadly time for travelers on our highways." He reported 1995 statistics show that during the 120-hour holiday period, 18 people were killed statewide and 698 injured in 1,488 traffic accidents along Missouri highways. Of the 18 fatalities last year, 11 of those individuals were not wearing their seat belt.

SIKESTON - Deciding to "reinforce past policy," the City Council approved next year's street program plan, minus any overlay projects on streets without curbs and gutters. Also at Monday's meeting, the council moved forward on a joint venture with the Board of Municipal Utilities to seek proposals for the addition of a second power plant unit.
