Everett Matthews

EAST PRAIRIE - Everett J. Matthews, 71, died at 5:55 p.m. Feb. 10, 2004, at his residence in East Prairie.

Born June 1, 1932, at East Prairie to the late Kilmer and Agnes Cooper Matthews, he lived most of his life in Mississippi County where he was a retired farmer.

In October 1962 he married Mary Counts, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: five sons, Terry Counts of Sikeston and Donnie Matthews, Anthony Matthews, Lee Matthews and Jayson Matthews of East Prairie; two daughters, Delina Woods and Teresa Woods of East Prairie; two sisters, Magdalene Manning of East Prairie and Ruth Myers of the state of Illinois; and 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

On daughter, Lisa Matthews, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday. Raymond Grimes will officiate.

Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Todd Woods, Arnold Lay, Clayton Counts, Glen Manning, Wayne Riggins and Shane Shands.
