CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Lady Bulldog volleyball team needed two comeback wins to clinch its SEMO Conference opener against Cape Central on Monday.
Sikeston (5-6, 1-0) blew leads in both match games, then rallied to capture each with identical 26-24 scores.
"It showed a lot of heart," said Sikeston coach Steve Beydler, "because we squandered our leads toward the end of both games and the girls dug in and pulled out victories. That was a positive note."
Added Beydler, "Previous to tonight, we probably would have lost the match, so maybe that's a small turnaround."
Service leaders for Sikeston were: Emily Taylor 10-of-10; Amber Anthony, 8-of-9; Kiarra Morris, 7-of-11, one ace; ; Audra Wooley 7-of-7, one ace; Quinn Kaiser 5-of-6 and Berneatress Hunt 4-of-6.
Hunt led the kill category with six.
The Sikeston junior varsity won its third straight match with a two-set win, 25-17 and 25-11, over Cape Central.
The Lady Bulldog JV evened its season mark at 3-3-1. Service leaders for Sikeston were: Rachel Beydler, 12-of-13, one ace; Alli Harper, 10-of-10, four aces; Gina Williams, 7-of-8, two aces; Destinee Walker, 6-of-7, one ace, Kelsey Lawrence, 3-of-4, three aces and Megan Underhill, 1-of-2.
