Tuesday, September 14, 2004

CARUTHERSVILLE - The Charleston Lady Bluejay tennis team defeated Caruthersville on the road on Monday, 9-0.

Charleston (4-0) saw no close matches from the Lady Tigers, winning all by lopsided scores.

"I was pleased with the way everybody played," said Charleston coach Mitch Baker. "We got a few more girls from the jayvee step up and get some varsity playing time. We still have a lot to work on but the season is still young. The girls are working hard and that's all you can ask at this time."

In doubles play, True/Sager beat Bradley/Bradley 8-0; Leuhmann/Ashley Shands beat Creed/Franchan Wiley 8-0; and Burton/Rebecca Rolwing beat Laura Hodge/Woods 8-1.

Charleston's junior varsity singles winners were Lindsey Burke, Jessie Duenne, Jade Schwieger and Virginia Burke.
