SIKESTON - The "Blonde Bomber," a combat plane which left last week for the Pacific Theater of war, is named for SHS graduate Miss Helen Vera Dudley, blonde daughter of Col. and Mrs. Harry E. Dudley.

SIKESTON - After 27 years residence in Sikeston, 18 of which he has owned and operated the A. and B. Oil Co., Arthur Ziegenhorn has tossed his hat into the city political ring as a candidate for councilman-at-large.

NEW MADRID - Music in Our Schools Week is being celebrated in several area schools this week. At the New Madrid Elementary School, the movie musical "Oliver" was shown and a talent show conducted. A operetta adapted from the "Wizard of Oz" is being prepared for a May performance, Directed by Terry Patton, featured will be Melinda Howell as Dorothy, Chris Crosby as the Lion, Stephen Wagley as the Scarecrow and Tony Maltbia as the Tin Woodman.

SIKESTON - The City of Sikeston took a step toward Sunset Addition revitalization Monday. At their regular monthly meeting, council members unanimously approved submission of an application to receive a Community Development Block Grant. The money, about $150,000, would be used to rebuild 15 to 20 homes between Osage and North streets and Westgate and Alabama streets.


NEW MADRID - The New Madrid Chamber of Commerce will serve as the city's official promotional group, following the approval of a resolution, which authorizes a contract between the city and Chamber. In exchange for office space and $6,600 per year for office expenses, the Chamber will provide assistance in obtaining grants and represent the city at state and regional functions.
