BLOOMFIELD - Augusta Johnson Shackleford, 89, died March 6, 2004, at the St. Peters Manor in St. Peters.
Born March 12, 1914, in Stone Hill, daughter of the late Jesse W. and Clara Freeman Bowers, she lived in St. Louis, Mill Spring and Salem before moving to Bloomfield in 1983. She was a machine operator and job inspector for Lincoln Engineering in St. Louis before retiring. A member of Mount Pisgah General Baptist Church in Aquilla since 1978, she was also a member of Machinist Lodge 1345 IAM for 29 years and a lifetime Gold Card member.
She was first married to Raymond Ellerbrook who preceded her in death. On May 24, 1961, at Mill Spring, she married the Rev. Arthur L. Johnson who died Sept. 12, 1978. She and Walter Shackleford were married Sept. 6, 1986, and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1993.
Survivors include: two sons, Wade Ellerbrook and Henry Ellerbrook of O'Fallon; one daughter, Grace Melano of Lancaster, Calif.; one brother, Walter Lee Bowers of Duncan, Okla.; one sister, Pearl Noble of Fenton; and 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Fred Bowers; two sisters, Rosalee Dies and Esther Fath; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Norman Elledge of Advance will officiate.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Advance.
