SIKESTON - H.T. Castleman has announced that the Sikeston Tent & Awning Co. has secured a contract to manufacture a large quantity of canvas baby jumpers and baby swings for the Mann-Wiley Co., Merchandise Mart, Chicago, Ill.
SIKESTON - The City Council in its regular monthly meeting for March convened Monday night in what proved to be a routine session. The Council approved an addition to Hunter Acres from Sikeston Boulevard to the Salcedo Road, an area that will provide a 44-lot addition.
SIKESTON - The entire trombone section of the Sikeston High School Concert Bands was featured in Frank Bencriscutto's Escapade for Trombones at Thursday night's concert in the high school cafetorium. The band played to a full house in the 40-minute winter concert.
MINER - Last year, it was the jail. Now it's police dispatching. Miner is losing services contracted through the City of Sikeston. When Sikeston closed its jail last year, Miner was forced to include holding cells in plans for a remodeled city hall. Scott County Jail took prisoners once the 20-hour holding period was up. Now the smaller city has to decide who will provide dispatching The options are varied - go with county-provided dispatching, establish Miner's own system and train people to operate it, ask current city office staff to man police phones during working hours and hire part-timers do to the rest.
COMMERCE - Good things do not always come to those who wait - and Scott County is finding out the hard way. The Scott County Commission has received a letter from the State Emergency Management Agency which said no public assistance will be given.
