JACKSON - Leon Edward Stone, 85, died Feb. 4, 2004, at the Jackson Manor.

Born May 10, 1918, in Lutesville, son of the late Hessie Edward and Blanche Edith Conrad Stone, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau and the Oak Ridge Masonic Lodge. He was a meat processor for Pipkin-Boyd-Neal Packing Company for 22 years before the company closed. Stone then worked for Central Packing Company in Cape Girardeau for two years and was a lifelong farmer.

On Aug. 23, 1938, he married Edna Mae Heatley who preceded him in death on July 26, 1985.

Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Garry and Paulette Stone Sr. of Jackson and Larry Stone of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Bill Stone of Millersville, Donnie Stone of Daisy, Roy Lee Stone of Cape Girardeau and Jack Stone of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Velma Dobbs of Chaffee and Wanda Lee Sparks of Jackson; nine grandchildren and spouses, Garry and Chris Stone Jr., Tony and Heidi Stone, Tim and Becky Stone and Jeff and Bobbi Stone of Jackson, Joey and Christina Stone of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., Stacy Stone of Sedgewickville, Debbie and Rick Casper of Thebes, Ill., Richie Stone of Indiana and Barry Stone of Scott City; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were one son, Tarry Stone; and two brothers.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Robert Henrichs will officiate.

Graveside military rites will be conducted at Union Park Cemetery at Chaffee.

Pallbearers will be: Garry Stone Jr., Tony Stone, Tim Stone, Jeff Stone, Joey Stone and Stacy Stone.
