BERNIE - Madeleine Smith, 94, died March 8, 2004, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born Oct. 20, 1909, in Charleston, daughter of the late Timothy Frogge and Stella Stewart Traylor, she was a member of the Bernie United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and had been a teacher for the Bernie School District.

On June 15, 1938, at Piedmont, she married John D. Smith who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Martie Smith of Bloomfield; two grandchildren, Angela McGowan and Jason McGowan; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Corbin and Jacie McGowan.

She was preceded in death by one son, Danny J. Smith; and two brothers.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bernie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
