BENTON - Ernest R. Poole, 73, died Aug. 16, 2004, at the Monticello House in Jackson.
Born Nov. 21, 1930, in Tamms, Ill., son of the late Elmer and Esther McCoy Poole, he was a cab driver for 24 years in Cape Girardeau and member of Smith Avenue Church of God in Sikeston.
On July 10, 1993, he married Veda Mouser who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Darla and the Rev. Robert Smith of Moro, Ill.; one stepson, Daren West of East Alton, Ill.; five sisters, Faye Erasmus of Murray, Ky., Anne Hiesel of Lebanon, Mo., Louise Dunning of Franklin, Tenn., Dorothy Pritchard of Jacksonville, Fla., and Judith Webb of Lexington, Tenn.; two brothers Robert Poole of Channelview, Texas, and Wayne Poole of Herrin, Ill.; and six stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, Gerald West; one sister, Beverly Oller; and two brothers, William Poole and Elmer Poole.
Services were conducted Aug. 19 at Elias-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory in Bethalto, Ill. The Rev. Ira Lee Sandefer officiated.
Burial followed in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Smith Avenue Church of God with the Rev. Ira Lee Sandefer, pastor, officiating.
