CAPE GIRARDEAU - Vernon "Jack" Brinkman, 80, died July 4, 2003, at his home.
Born Oct. 8, 1922, in Cape Girardeau County, son of the late Paul and Bess Deevers Brinkman, he retired in 1982 from Auto Tire and Parts in Cape Girardeau. A former member of the Catholic Church in Perryville, he was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, American Legion Post 133 in Perryville, Knights of Columbus Council 1111, VFW Post 3838 and the Elks Lodge in Cape Girardeau. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
On Sept. 17, 1943, he married Norma A. Voelker who preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 2002.
Survivors include: two sons, Craig Brinkman of Sikeston and John Brinkman of Jackson; one daughter, Brenda Crain of Jackson; one brother, Glen Brinkman of Cape Girardeau; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan Brinkman and Loyd Brinkman.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. today at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Kevin Faust officiated.
American Legion Post 133 conducted military graveside rites at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Young and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
