60 years ago

SIKESTON - Cpl. Andrew Lee Lasater, 21, of Sikeston, was killed Monday in the crash of a Flying Fortress near Ardmore, Okla., where he was stationed at an air base, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Lasater, were informed by telegram from the War Department that night. Also killed in the crash was the co-pilot Loren Crites, who was a brother of Woodrow W. Crites, formerly of Sikeston.


SIKESTON - L.M. Stanley and E.R. Putnam Sr. are in St. Louis this week to take the 32nd degree rites in masonry.

May 3, 1964

SIKESTON - More than 4,000 attended eight events of Sikeston's first Festival of the Arts, covering almost a month during April and May, reported Mrs. Tom Allen, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Committee on the Arts, which planned the program.

SIKESTON - The Daily Standard Calendar girl for May in Linda Francis. She is the 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Francis. She will graduate from Sikeston High School this month. While in high school, she enjoyed choir and history and plans to further her education after graduation.

SIKESTON - Brittany McDonald of Sikeston was crowned Junior Miss Springfest and named Most Photogenic April 23 in Essex. Second alternate was Ashley Battles of Dexter with first alternate going to April McIntosh of Campbell.


SIKESTON - Ann Tidwell and her 3-year-old son Dustin, take time out to play with their dog, Rusty. The 1-year-old chow should get some special treatment during National Pet Week, May 1-7. Keep that in mind this week when you go home to your pets.
