SIKESTON - Melvin "Jake" Couch has been injured while on the job at a shoe factory here. His foot was caught in a machine and was smashed, but no bones were broken and Melvin should be back to work soon.
SIKESTON - Chamber of Commerce aspirations were reviewed by Manager Richard Pinkerton at a meeting of the Rotary Club last night at the Rustic Rock Inn. Pinkerton said the Chamber of Commerce needed more membership and a planned work program.

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Southeast Missouri State University wants to raise incidental and general fees by $4 a credit hour next academic year. In-state undergraduate students would pay $100 a credit hour if the increase is approved. The university's budget review has recommended increasing incidental fees by $3 and general fees by $1.
SIKESTON - The city of Sikeston will not seek to locate a state prison here. Economic Development Director Bill Green made the announcement this morning after a New Madrid County landowner apparently withdrew his interest in the project.
SIKESTON - The Sikeston Senior High Class of '97 held their raffle for the senior trip Wednesday afternoon with the grand prize being a color television. Several businesses donated items. Hense Winchester of Sikeston won the television.
