BERNIE -- A Stoddard County man is in jail on charges of murdering his stepbrother over the weekend.
According to Stoddard County Sheriff's Department, the Bernie Police Department was dispatched to 409 Bowman St. in reference to a possible stabbing on Saturday. The investigation revealed the victim, Vernon E. Lipsey, 18, of Poplar Bluff had been stabbed by his 21-year-old stepbrother, Justen Lee Patterson of Bernie.
Stoddard County Coroner Morgan Sifford pronounced Lipsey dead at the scene, where Patterson was arrested and later charged by the Stoddard County prosecutor with second degree murder.
The Stoddard County Major Case Squad assisted in the investigation. Patterson is currently incarcerated at the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department without bond. He is scheduled to appear before Judge Joe Satterfield Thursday.
