BLOOMFIELD - Byron Phillips, 85, died Nov. 9, 2005, at his residence.
Born May 3, 1920, at Zadock, son of the late Charles Edward and Licci Elsie Cox Phillips, he was a farmer, former chief of police in Bloomfield and a heavy equipment operator. He was of the General Baptist belief.
On Nov. 11, 1954, at Bloomfield, he married Betty Magee, who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Nancy Jean Phillips of Bloomfield; two brothers, Charles Edward Phillips and Kenneth Dean Phillips, both of Bloomfield; two sisters, Novella Kingree of Aid and Lorene Kennett of Dexter; and two grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John Wayne Phillips; and one brother, Orin Phillips.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Gary Cooper officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
