ESSEX - Herschel Eugene "Ike" DeWitt, 70, died, Nov. 9, 2005, at his residence.
Born April 23, 1935, in Matthews, son of the late Effie Rattlif and Hollis DeWitt, he retired in 1996 from Malone and Hyde after 30 years of service and was a member of the Essex Church of Christ.
On May 23, 1958, at Bloomfield, he married Linda Mitchell, who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Laurie DeWitt of Morehouse; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jimmy Groves of Morehouse; two brothers, Charles DeWitt of Sikeston and Jerry DeWitt of Texas; three sisters, JoAnn Matthews of Sikeston, Lois Manes of Essex and Mickey Rudisill of Morehouse; three grandchildren, Jeramy Roberts of Cape Girardeau, Erica DeWitt and Taylor DeWitt, both of Morehouse.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Allen "Tinker" DeWitt.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, with Herman Morse of the Essex Church of Christ officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Gregg Fowler, Steve Freeman, Eric Hutchison, Kyle Mitchell, Paul Head and Eugene McClung.
