SIKESTON - Work on the five group homes adjacent to the Sikeston Regional Center for the Developmentally Disabled on Plaza Drive continues this week. Construction on the group homes began in June and should be completed by Nov. 1. The homes are being constructed in order to service Southeast Missouri with long-term housing for the developmentally disabled.
EAST PRAIRIE - A ceremony Saturday marked the end of nearly a year and half of efforts by East Prairie and Epworth Bootheel Family Learning Center officials to obtain a $2.95 million Federal Social Services Block Grant. Gov. Mel Carnahan was among state officials attending the ceremony. Carnahan announced an additional $288,000 grant for the center. Also announced was the awarding of a $300,000 Rural Enterprise Grant which is to assist the city in further renovation of its industrial building for Jakel Inc.
