Sharks place second in Sikeston Invitational

SIKESTON -- A total of 186 swimmers competed in the Sikeston Invitational on Saturday.

In the end, Kennett walked away with the victory with 1,003 points, followed by the host squad with 770. Poplar Bluff took third with 437, followed by Farmington with 118.

For the Sharks, Mark Fraser was the highlight of the day, winning first place in three events. In the 11-12 division, Fraser took top honors in the 50 fly (44.62), 100 free (1:25.32) and 200 IM (3:45.58).

Gratten Allen won first place in two events in the 11-12 class winning the 50 back (45.12) and 50 breast (44.71) while Kenneth Moy took first in the 50 fly (1:17.37) in the 9-10 division. Jake Pewitt also had a big day in the 11-12 class winning the 50 free (37.59).

Mary Liz Klueppel took first in the girls 6 and under 25 breast with a time of 35.77 and the 25 free with a time of 27.79. Taylor Allen was the winner in the 100 breast (1:35.25) for the girls 13-14 class.

In the girls 15-18 division, Lauren Medley took first in the 100 breast (1:34.33) while Annie Pewitt won first in the 8 and under division 50 free (54.91).

The boys 11-12 200 medley relay team of Jake Pewitt, Gratten Allen, Fraser and Sam Gleason took first with a time of 3:06.42. Gleason, Abdullah Said, Gratten Allen and Jake Pewitt also placed first in the 200 free with a time of 3:00.74.

The girls 13-14 200 medley relay team of Alicia Kennedy, Taylor Allen, Victoria Moy and Aiden Marshall took first with a time of 2:45.09 while the girls 15-18 free relay team of Kristen Riley, Claire Henggler, Jessica Pierce and Medley placed first with a time of 3:20.44.

Sikeston's swim team is back in action this afternoon, participating in Charleston's relay meet.
