SIKESTON - Mrs. Paul Heckemeyer will entertain at an informal party Thursday afternoon in her home on North Ranney in honor of Mrs. Garwood Sharp, who will join her husband in Poplar Bluff to reside.

BERTRAND - Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hinkle of Bertrand are parents of a baby boy born Saturday at Sikeston General Hospital.

BLOOMFIELD - When Sheriff Ralph Temples of Stoddard County checked the county jail Sunday morning, he discovered two things - first, one of the inmates had departed and second, he had left a note telling the sheriff how long it took him to saw through the cell bars.

BENTON - Scott County has been placed under a rabies alert after a rabid skunk was killed recently in Scott City. Scott County Health Officer Warren Manning said residents in the county should take precautions to protect themselves and their pets from rabies.

SIKESTON - Winners of the Beta Sigma Phi Bathing Beauty Cutie Pageant for 1-2-year-olds were Blake Burton, son of Robert and Sherri Burton of New Madrid and Kristen Williams, daughter of Danny and Regenia Williams of Essex. First runners-up were Stephanie Rudnick, daughter of Steve and Lisa Rudnick of Canalou and Logan Gilmore, son of Scooter and Jayne Gilmore of Sikeston. Casey Danielle Palmer, daughter of Steve and Rhonda Palmer of Sikeston and Justin Perry, son of Rick and Wanda Perry of Sikeston, were second runners-up.

SIKESTON - After a week of deliberation and three rounds of trimming, the Sikeston City Council approved the city's financial budget by a 4-0 vote Wednesday.
