SIKESTON - Clara Leola (Sutherland) Garrison, 91, died March 21, 2008, at her home in Sikeston.
She was born Oct. 23, 1916, in, Hayleville, Ala., daughter of the late Rufus and Georgia (Peek) Sutherland, and was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.
On Sept. 8, 1933, she married Charles Chester "Check" Garrison, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1969. Born to this union were three sons and nine daughters.
Survivors include: one son, Kenneth Garrison of Sikeston; nine daughters, Wynelle "Wendy" (Bill) Alcorn, Glynell (Jim) Hall, Louise (Tim) Allred, and Rachel (Paul) Reed, all of Sikeston, Vernell (John) Hill of White House, Tenn., Revelle (Bobby) Hancock and Evelle Doty of Jeffersonville, Ind., Laverne (Jimmy) Goins of Bloomfield, and Sybil (Mike) Childers of Austin, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Mildred Garrison of Gordonsville, Tenn. and Delores Garrison of Bertrand; Eddie Hubbard of Dyersburg, a special friend of the Garrison Family and like a son, as well as the pianist for the Garrison girls; one brother, Otho Sutherland of Double Springs, Ala.; one sister, Doshie Ivy of Double Springs; and 35 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, two sons, Waynas Garrison and Wendell Garrison; two grandsons, Larry Wendell Garrison and Joseph Wayne Garrison; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Garrison; and five brothers and six sisters preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ponder Funeral Home, where funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Trish Eskew, pastor of Vanduser Church of God, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be David Goins, David Alcorn, Chris Goins, Steve Wirth, Aaron Dickson, Cody Reed, Darren Wolfe and Eric Wolfe.
