Dexter doubles team falls in consolation semifinals

SPRINGFIELD -- The stellar career of Sikeston tennis player Jenni DeWitt came to an end Saturday with a fourth place finish in the Class 1 Missouri State HIgh School Activities Association singles tournament.

DeWitt, who entered Saturday with a 24-0 record, lost her semifinal match to Amy Barnthouse of Notre Dame de Sion, 6-1, 6-0 and then dropped her third place match to Maddie Keller of Notre Dame de Sion, 6-1, 6-2. DeWitt, who qualified for the state tournament all four years of high school, finished fourth for the second consecutive year.

Alex Lehman of John Burroughs defeated Barnthouse in the finals, 6-1, 6-1.

The Dexter doubles team of Amanda Dooley and Katelyn Heil lost in their consolation semifinal match to Catherine Greenberg and Drew Lefkowith of Clayton, 6-2, 6-4.
