SPRINGFIELD -- Jenni DeWitt's dream of a state title was alive and well Friday night after winning her first two matches in the Class 1 singles tournament held in Springfield.

DeWitt, who finished fourth last season, kept her perfect season alive by defeating Michelle Wertz of Clinton, 6-0, 6-0 in the first round. In the quarterfinals, DeWitt dispatched Tessa Klassen of Villa Duchesne, 6-2, 6-1.

DeWitt played Amy Barnthouse of Notre Dame de Sion Saturday for the right to play in the championship match later in the day. Results will be in Monday's Standard Democrat.

Sikeston freshman Campbell Moore wasn't as fortunate, losing in two matches. Moore lost to Alex Lehman of John Burroughs 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and then lost a close match to Nadine Schippers of Monett, 6-4, 6-2 in the consolation bracket.

Dexter's doubles team of Amanda Dooley and Katelyn Heil won their first round match over Alexa Moberly and Jenna Wiersma of Kearney, 6-1, 6-2. They then dropped their quarterfinal match to Amy Durham and Courtney Henley of Marshall 6-2, 6-4. The duo rebounded in the consolation quarterfinals, defeating Bishop LeBlond's Loree Hazelrigg and Melanie Pankiewicz, 6-3, 6-2.

Dooley and Heil played again on Saturday. Results can be found in Monday's Standard Democrat.
