ORAN -- Herbert Joseph Hahn, 95, died at 4:50 p.m. Oct. 2, 2007, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Dec. 13, 1911, at the family home in Caney Creek, son of Joseph and Mary Barbara Gosche Hahn, he was a farmer in the Oran area until his retirement. A lifelong member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 4311 in Oran. From 1926 to 1940, he was a pitcher and clean-up hitter for the Caney Tigers baseball team; and was inducted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993.
On May 3, 1941, he married Verneda Marietta Pobst, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2000.
Three brothers, a sister and an infant son also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two sons, Morris Hahn and David Hahn of Oran; one daughter, Karla Essner of Kelso; and 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Parish prayers are scheduled for 7 p.m., with a Knights of Columbus rosary to be said at 7:15 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, with the Revs. John Harth and Normand Varone serving as Celebrants.
Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be: Craig Hahn, Jason Hahn, Justin Hahn, Nathan Essner, Cory Hahn and Lee Essner.
