SIKESTON - Lightning is believed to have struck the Mrs. B.F. Marshall property on Lake Street, where Mr. and Mrs. Keith Collins and baby son make their home, in a recent electrical storm. Mr. and Mrs. Collins returned from a short trip last week to find their home and contents damaged by smoke.

SIKESTON - While their minister, the Rev. Oral Withrow, is attending the Third World Conference of the Church of God in Bochum, Germany, and then continuing to the Holy Land, local lay leaders will assume pastoral roles for seven weeks.

EAST PRAIRIE - East Prairie's 100th birthday is being celebrated in conjunction with the annual Sweet Corn Festival and Fourth of July activities.


SIKESTON - Those who attended Thursday's meeting of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce were told about the divestiture of AT&T and saw the Sikeston Pride Award go to Cream Castle.

SIKESTON - The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 Thursday afternoon which resulted in injuries to eight people. The accident occurred when one car went off the road, onto the shoulder, and struck a parked car. The Sikeston Rescue Squad and Miner Fire Department also responded to the scene.


CHARLESTON - The Mississippi County Commission Thursday authorized a letter of intent to Southwestern Bell Telephone, further implementing the Enhanced 911 Service approved by county voters in November. The letter of intent, according to County Clerk Junior DeLay, also covers the requirement for a service agreement between the county and telephone company.
