Dick Fuller

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas - Col Howard R. "Dick" Fuller Jr., 79, died peacefully on May 17, 2004, surrounded by his family.

Born Sept. 24, 1924, in Binghamton, N.Y., son of the late Col Howard R. and Helen M. Fuller, he graduated in 1946 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and received a masters degree in international relations from Tulane University. He also attended the Army Command and Staff College, the Army War College and several other service schools. During his career as a cavalry officer, assignments took him from Europe to Vietnam. He served his country with honor for more than 30 years in both war and peace.

After retiring from the Army, he went on to a second career in hotel management, working for Marriott Hotels and Drury Inns.

His wife, Sue Keller Fuller, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Tip and Michelle Fuller and Steve and Claudia Fuller; one daughter and son-in-law, Paige and Steve Greenwell; six grandchildren and one granddaughter-in-law, Lt. Scott and Andrea Fuller, Laura Fuller, Anthony Lasky, Kelli Fuller, Austin Fuller and Erin Fuller; and one sister, Shirley Bruner of Deland, Fla.

Dick enjoyed traveling, golf, poker, summer trips to the family's second home in Steamboat Springs, Colo., and his family. His integrity, quick wit and humor will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday in the Cheever Chapel of the Army Residence Center.

Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where full military honors will be presented.
