SIKESTON -- Sikeston Public Schools is searching for more names to add to its Hall of Fame and Honor Wall this fall.

Nominations of individuals for the two honors are currently being accepted through July 30; applications are available at the Sikeston R-6 Central Office.

Since 1995, the Sikeston R-6 Honor Wall has recognized individuals for their good service to the Sikeston Public Schools. These honorees are usually a past teacher, administrator or school board member.

"The Honor Wall is a way to honor individuals who have contributed time, effort and dedication to Sikeston Public Schools in some way," explained Sally Lape, committee member.

The Hall of Fame recognizes athletes who have received state honors or beyond. For the Hall of Fame, Sikeston schools honors past graduates who have been out of school for five years which means 1999 graduates and before would be eligible this year.

When a person is honored, they are given a plaque and a duplicate also hangs in the Sikeston Field House on either the Wall of Fame or the Wall of Honor. Lape encouraged anyone who would like to make contributions to cover expenses of the Hall of Fame/Honor Wall to send donations to the central office.

The night of the ceremony is really big event for the honorees and their families, Lape pointed out.

"We try to make it a night they will remember. It's a good time for them to come back to their alma mater and see people they might have gone to school with and see the school or football field, which brings back lots of memories," Lape said.

The inductions ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 8 during the Sikeston/New Madrid football game. A tail gate party for honorees as well as past honorees and their families will begin at 6 p.m.

Lape said about the event: "There's nothing better than a cool, crisp Friday night with football fans and friends everywhere to remind you about your days in high school."

Nomination applications are available only at the Board of Education Office, 1002 Virginia St. For more information or to make donations, contact the Board of Education office at 472-2581.
