BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Dr. Dale Courtland Merritt, 63, died Nov. 17, 2007, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.
Born July 7, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Clyde Raymond and Grace Margaret Kennedy Merritt, he was raised in St. Louis. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark., and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also received his doctorate from the Luther Rice Seminary. He had been a pastor in Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Germany. He served as pastor of the Miner Baptist Church in Sikeston, Mo., from 1986 to 1996 and interim pastor at Dorena, Mo., Baptist Church from 1997 to 1998. He had been president of the European Baptist Convention and was an active member at First Baptist Church in Bartlesville.
On Aug. 20, 1966, in High Ridge, Mo., he married Velma Jean Brinley, who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, David and Teresa Courtland Merritt of Yellville, Ark.; two daughters and one son-in-
law, Rebekah Hope and Dale Cranfield of Benton, Mo., and Elizabeth Joy Merritt of the home; one brother, Richard Merritt of St. Louis; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted Nov. 19 at the First Baptist Church in Bartlesville with Dr. Joe Fowler officiating. A reception followed the service in the fellowship hall.
Stumpff Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
