NEW MADRID -- The New Madrid County Central Middle School Football program got off to a perfect start Thursday with big wins over Kennett in seventh and eighth grade action.
In the eighth grade contest, Lamonte Nelson scored on runs of 19 and 15 yards. Lorenzo Hill had 52-yard TD run to go along with two fumble recoveries. Jaylon Ross added an 11-yard run to paydirt and a nice interception in the second half.
Quarterback Kyle Harris commanded the NMCC offense that put 28 points on the scoreboard, completing an extra-point conversion pass to Michael Fountain, while Eric Mims added a conversion run.
In the seventh grade contest, the Eagles got off to a quick start with Shermon Taylor finding the end zone three times on runs of 30, 69, and 28 yards. Terrell Brown scored on the conversion and on a 33-yard fumble return to make it a 12-0. Chad Moton scored on the final play from scrimmage, breaking loose for an 80-yard TD run with an assist coming from Brown on a downfield block.
NMCCMS travels to play Sikeston today.
