BENTON -- Two area high school cross country teams are celebrating championships after competing Saturday at the Kelly Invitational.
In the varsity boys race, Kelly won the team title as Cody Kern finished second overall. Poplar Bluff runner Travis Blaylock won the boys competition in 16-
minutes, 25 seconds.
Runners who completed the 3.1-mile course among the Top 15 received medals. Jacob Murphy, who was Sikeston's highest finisher, was 20th.
In the varsity girls race, Dexter claimed the team title. Hannah Blaylock, the sister of Travis, had the winning time of 21:12.
Like the boys race, runners in the girls race who completed the 3.1-mile course among the Top 15 received medals. Sikeston had no competitors in the girls race.
Sikeston competed at the Jackson Invitational on Sept. 1, where Matt Rushing was 14th in the senior high division and Murphy was 18th in the freshman division.
