Cameras help DPS nab wanted man

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

SIKESTON - An alert citizen and the help of the city's camera system enabled law enforcement officers to arrest an individual on the Sikeston Department of Public Safety's Most Wanted List.

Andrew Washington, 22, of Sikeston, was arrested Monday on four counts of first degree statutory sodomy after DPS was alerted by a individual who recognized Washington from the DPS "Most Wanted" Web page, according to a news release from the Department. A communications officer used the city's camera system to identify the individual and send officers to arrest Washington.

"The cameras have again proven to be very beneficial for Public Safety," said Sgt. James McMillen. "This isn't the first arrest to come from the monitoring of this camera system. We are fortunate to have such a useful system for our Officers and for our community."

Washington remains in custody pending his arraignment in Scott County Associate Court with bond set at $150,000.
