MATTHEWS - Walter Lee Beck Jr., 52, died at 2:18 p.m. Jan. 20, 2006, in the emergency room at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born May 12, 1953, to the late Walter Lee and Virginia Lee Lathom Beck Sr., he was owner and operator of Lee's Lawn Irrigation. He was a 1971 Matthews High School graduate and in the early 1970's joined the Sikeston Jaycees where he was rodeo chairman for the 1981 Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo and later became an "Exhausted Rooster." He received the Art Saunders Founders Award in 1992 and remained active in the rodeo every year thereafter. He was a member of the Big Prairie Jaycees Chapter in Matthews, a Boy Scout leader and a Little League baseball coach.
Survivors include: three sons, Daniel Beck, Nathan Beck and Nick Beck, all of Sikeston; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Cheryl and Jerry Lathum of Sikeston, Ann and Armand Porter of Matthews and Rochelle Beck of Matthews; his fiancee, Linda Loomas and her daughter, Scarlett Loomas of East Prairie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one nephew, Clay Porter and one great-nephew, Holt Brigman.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Pat Quinn, SJ, of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, officiating. A eulogy will be given by Jerry Lathum and Dan Lape.
Burial will follow in the Matthews Cemetery.
