NEW MADRID - Elzie Mack Higgerson, 69, died Jan. 22, 2006, at his home.
Born April 4, 1936, at Sugar Tree Ridge in New Madrid County, son of the late Andrew Jackson and Lena Wright Keene Higgerson, he lived most of his life in New Madrid County. He was a farmer for several years and then a carpenter until his retirement. He was Worshipful Master of New Madrid Lodge No. 429 in 1972 and 1991, a member of New Madrid Chapter 293 O.E.S., a member of New Madrid Baptist Church, an active booster of American Legion Post No. 595 for many years and played an active role in the restoration of Higgerson School as an historic site.
On April 2, 1955, in New Madrid, he married Mary Alice Henry, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two daughters and one son-in-law, George and Donna Kaye Pipkin and Cheryl Annette Franks of Kewanee; four brothers, Ralph, Russell and Howard Higgerson, all of New Madrid and Cecil Higgerson of Rainsville, Ala.; and seven grandchildren, Andrea Harris, Vicky Redden, Mack Pipkin, Aimee Sloan, Jimmy, Jacob and Joseph Franks; and eight great-
One infant daughter, Vicky Anita; one infant brother; two brothers, Wesley and Alfred Higgerson; and two sisters, Norma Gene Higgerson and Lena Carole Atkins, preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Tom McCanless officiating, assisted by Jason Redden.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
