ORAN -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs volleyball team was back in action Tuesday night as they traveled to Oran taking on the Lady Eagles. The Lady 'Dogs edged out the Lady Eagles in straight sets 25-16, 25-13.
Picking up their second straight win, Sikeston finds themselves only one game under five hundred with an 8-9-2 record.
"Our girls did some good things tonight although I still see room for improvement," said Sikeston head coach Steve Beydler, "However, as they say, a win is a win."
The Lady Bulldogs were led by consistent play from setter Rachel Beydler and middle hitters Caitlyn Underwood and Martika Davis.
Rachel Beydler, who is Sikeston season leader in assist and digs, finished the game on 8-9 serving with 14 assists, nine digs, three kills, and two blocks. Underwood was 12-12 serving with five digs, six kills, and two blocks while Davis went 8-8 serving with three aces, four digs, nine kills, and three blocks.
"We did great serving and digging the ball out tonight," said Beydler, "Our middle hitters were solid as they normally are, but we struggled some on the outside."
"Once we fine tune our hits from the outside I believe we will be ready come district tournament," he added.
Other contributions to the Lady 'Dogs victory including Jennifer Millington who went 8-9 serving with one ace, eight digs, two kills and a block while Mandy Moore had 7-7 serving on the night with three digs.
Keyarra Blissett also got in on the action with three kills and a block, as well as Andrea Coleman who served 3-3 from the line with four digs.
The Lady Bulldogs look to go five hundred on the season as they host the Dexter Lady Bearcats Thursday night. Junior varsity is scheduled at 6 p.m. with varsity following at 7 p.m.
