SIKESTON - Bud Heath of Sikeston was elected district commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at the annual meeting of the 14th district at Cape Girardeau Sunday afternoon.

SIKESTON - J. W. Hartzog, president of the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce has announced that a general membership meeting will be June 24 at the Holiday Inn at noon. Guest speaker at the meeting will be Henry C. Maddox, director of the Commerce and Industrial Department in Jefferson City.

CHARLESTON - Dr. W. Goddard of Cape Girardeau will be principal at Charleston High School this year, the R-1 Board of Education announced this week. He replaced Clinton Pope of Malden, who resigned to become an assistant superintendent at Malden.

SIKESTON - Brian Allen LaValle, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob LaValle of New Madrid, and Terry Alexander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Alexander of Sikeston, are attending the American Legion Boys State of Missouri, which began Saturday and continues through June 22 on the campus at Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Public Library has announced the "Stick-A-Round Reading" program for the 1985 summer program for children. The program will open at the Library Tuesday.

SIKESTON - Mary Cooney, vice president of Chapter JU Sikeston of the PEO, was a delegate to the 102nd Convention of the Missouri State Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood at Kansas City.


SIKESTON - It's full steam ahead for the construction of the Bootheel Golf Club. The 134-acre, 18-hole course, the vision of F&H Development Company of Louisville, Ky., will offer a par 72 challenge, said Clark Fenimore, president of F&H Development. The developers expect the course to be open in the spring of 1996.
