SPRINGFILED -- The Rev. Robert I. Jones, 86, died June 29, 2006, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield.
Born Feb. 3, 1920, at Columbus, Ky., to Fred and Vera Stacy Jones, he lived most of his life in Southeast Missouri and moved to Springfield in 1992. He was a preacher for 63 years, pastoring at General Baptist churches in Southeast Missouri. He also taught in public schools. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific with General MacArthur's forces.
In 1942, he married Violet Edwards who survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Stanley Jones of Greenwood, Ind., and Grady Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Carolyn Risenhoover of Springfield; and 10 grandchildren.
One daughter, Charlotte Champion, preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. until time for services at 2 p.m. today at Greenlawn Funeral Home South with the Rev. Dean Trivett officiating.
Graveside services and burial with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield followed by a visitation at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the North Acres General Baptist Church in Sikeston.
