CLARKTON - The Risco boys basketball team won the consolation game in the Reindeer Holiday Tournament over the Gideon Bulldogs 54-52, in an overtime thriller.
With the contest tied at 52 with five seconds left in overtime, senior guard Brice Earnheart calmly sank two free-throws to win the game for the Tigers.
"Those were some clutch free-throws made by Brice," said Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship. "It was an one-and-one opportunity and Brice stepped up and calmly sank the foul shots."
Risco started the game slowly and trailed 25-22 at halftime. The Tigers had problems all night keeping focused on beating the Bulldogs.
"We didn't step up until the fourth quarter," said Blankenship. "We didn't rebound or defend for much of the game. We almost waited too late to play. Even though we had our problems, it is still a good victory in overtime."
Andrew Halford led Risco with 16 points. Earnheart was the only other Tiger in double figures with 14.
Gideon was led in scoring by Jordan Boone who poured in a game-high 18 points. Josh Hollingshead scored 14 points and Dustin Horod chipped in with 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Risco (4-4) will enjoy the holiday break and will not be back in action until Jan. 3, when they travel to Hayti to take on the Indians.
