Work begins for YMCA expansion

Ferrell Excavating removes concrete from the Sikeston Jaycee Municipal Swimming Pool Thursday. The company is preparing the site for the new David M. Barton YMCA Family Center.

The facility will be named in memory of David M. Barton, whose widow, June Barton, donated $2 million earlier this year in his honor.

The new YMCA will be 52,000 square feet and include an indoor pool facility, walking track, changing rooms and other amenities.
