SIKESTON - Elsie Irene Richey Smith, 89, died Feb. 19, 2005, at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.

Born Aug. 24, 1915, in Point Pleasant, daughter of the late Thomas and Laura Owen Richey, she earned a masters in elementary education from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. She was a first grade teacher at Lee Hunter and Southeast Elementary Schools before retiring. A member of the First Baptist Church in Sikeston, she was also a member of the Sikeston Retired Teachers Association.

On Aug. 21, 1949, in Sikeston, she married H. Linn Smith Jr. who preceded her in death in April 1985.

Nine brothers and sisters also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard L. "Dick" and Jeannette Meredith Smith of Kansas City, Thomas Handy and Debi Smith of Dallas, Texas, and Dr. Stephen Richey and Ursula Smith of Chesterfield; one sister, Estelle Wrona of Detroit, Mich.; and nine grandchildren and one great-

grandson.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Blanchard Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Ramsey, pastor, and the Rev. David Jackson, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sikeston City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Don Swilley, the Rev. Paul Swilley, C.D. Walker, Dr. Jim Barnes, Charles Chaney and John Heacox.
