Libba Crisler

Wednesday, February 23, 2005

NEW MADRID - Libba Hunter Crisler passed in the loving presence of her family on Feb. 20, 2005. She lived 91 incredible years and will be remembered with much love and many, many smiles. She touched many with her kind and caring ways; she will be greatly missed.

She leaves behind a brother, Hal E. Hunter Jr.; three children and their spouses, Janet Crisler Stewart and husband John Stewart, Howard E. Crisler Jr. and wife Alice Crisler and Beth Crisler Winkler and husband Greg Winkler. She enjoyed her eight grandchildren and her 11 great-grandchildren, who were the sunshine of her days.

Her husband, Howard E. Crisler, sister, Mary Berryman, and grandson, Patrick Stewart, preceded her in death.

"Bill" or "Willie," as many knew her, was a devout Catholic. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockledge while visiting and a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in her hometown of New Madrid where she was born and lived as a devoted wife and mother.

She served the American Red Cross for more than 50 years in various capacities including chairperson of the New Madrid County Chapter and Bloodmobile chairperson. Because of her dedicated service, she was awarded a 50-year service pin in 1991. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 2000, the New Madrid Chamber of Commerce presented Libba with a Life Time Achievement Award, a great honor and one of which she was very proud.

Known for her warm and accepting welcome when meeting someone new, most were given a big hug upon introduction. She has many, many "adopted" children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She never met a stranger and had no enemies - ever. A pillar of strength for our family, she left us really big shoes to try to fill even though she only wore a size 5.

Services and funeral will take place in New Madrid.

Visitation is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Richards Funeral Home where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
