SIKESTON - T-Sgt. Harold Boardman, who was a prisoner of war in Germany from last September until April, arrived in Sikeston Tuesday on a 30-day furlough and is visiting Mrs. Boardman and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Boardman.

ORAN - Dedication for the George Tilles Jr. Memorial Park was held here yesterday. The new 15-acre recreational park is located on the southwestern city limits of Oran. The program got under way when the Oran High School band, under the direction of Mrs. Don Keller, marched from the park entrance to the speaker's platform. The special speaker was Mrs. P.B. Fisher of Sullivan, state president of the Federated Garden Clubs.

SIKESTON - A Burlington Northern train, reportedly with 185 cars, derailed Wednesday afternoon along the tracks between the Delta Drive-In and the Grant City Community. Reportedly, approximately 30 cars derailed, causing Scott County Route 452 to be blocked. The deputy sheriff was called to the scene and found no hazardous material on the train.

SIKESTON - Elizabeth Farrenburg, a senior at Sikeston High School, now carries the title of state auditor of Missouri Girls State. Farrenburg assumed the role at the 54th session of Missouri Girls State which was conducted at William Woods University at Fulton. It is reported that is has been many years - if ever - that a Sikeston girl has been chosen an elected state official of the program.

NORFOLK, Va. - Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Henry Jackson, son of Dimas and Christine Jackson of New Madrid, Mo., recently participated in the eighth Annual Fleet Week celebration in New York City on board the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau, homported in Norfolk. Jackson was one of more than 6,000 taking part in the naval review.
