SIKESTON - Members of the Missouri National Guard will return home today after approximately 30 days of duty deployed to the hurricane-ravaged region of Louisiana.
The Missouri Guardsmen are from the 1140th Engineer Battalion headquartered in Cape Girardeau, Charlie Company of 203rd Engineer Battalion located in Monett and the 880th Engineer Dump Company located in Dexter.
While deployed, these units were assigned various engineering missions including debris removal and high water rescue operations that supported the total hurricane relief effort.
After returning the soldiers will inventory equipment, perform maintenance operations on their equipment, complete medical evaluations and other administrative functions.
"I'm very proud of the commitment and hard work these soldiers have done while deployed in support of Katrina operations," said Brig. Gen. King Sidwell, Missouri National Guard adjutant general.
