BERTRAND -- John Albert Peters Sr., 91, died at 3:45 p.m. April 3, 2005, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Born June 2, 1913, in Pontotoc, Miss., son of the late John Karl and Virginia Savely Peters, he had lived in Bertrand most of his life and farmed until his retirement. He was a member of the Bertrand First Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 30 years and taught Sunday school.
On Oct. 19, 1935, he married Mabel Ann Woods who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: seven sons and six daughters-in-law, John Albert and Loretta Peters Jr., David and Carolyn Peters and Larry Peters of Bertrand, Mike and Janice Peters of Charleston, Jerry and Pat Peters of Benton, Ricky and Christie Peters of Arcola, Ill., and Steve and Susan Peters of Sikeston; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Larry Miller and Donna Peters of Bertrand, Dianne and Danny Babb of Charleston; one son in-law, Keith McDowell of Farmington; one brother, Carl Peters of Bertrand; one sister, Dale Lynch of Bertrand; and 26 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Two daughters, Betty Crook and Dorothy Elser McDowell; two brothers, Charlie Peters and Lester Peters; and three sisters, Tillie Swinney, Ethel Brown and Mary Virginia Kellick, preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Bob Herring of Cape Girardeau and the Rev. Dolan Rogers of Sikeston will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, John Elser III, Scott Peters, Brent Peters, Hudson Peters, Carson Peters, Josh Peters, Jared Peters, Nathan Peters and Daniel Babb II.
