SIKESTON - Mrs. Wendall Hall is recovering nicely after an emergency appendectomy at the Jewish Hospital in St. Louis last Saturday.
SIKESTON - In a triple header Saturday night at Puckett Field, the Little League Invitational Tournament moved into full swing with New Madrid trouncing Morehouse, Oran defeating Sikeston and Portageville edging Bertrand.
CHARLESTON - Marijuana with an estimated street value of $80,000 was cut in the Thompson Bend area north of Charleston and near the Mississippi River Wednesday by members of the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.
SIKESTON - The Sikeston Community Church held its annual Vacation Bible School July 17-21. There were 53 participants, ranging in age from two months to 6th grade, along with staff members and helpers. This years' theme was "Windows on the World." Offerings collected will be used for missions. A taco supper, courtesy of Taco Johns, was held Friday night and was followed by graduation on Sunday night.

SIKESTON - Duncan's Martial Arts class recently tested their skills in competition at the City of Roses Karate Tournament in Cape Girardeau. The students that placed were: Freddie Gilliland, third in fighting; Candace Brown, first in fighting; Mark Kneezle, first place in fighting; Drew Moore, first place fighting and second in forms; Chelsea Gilliland, first in fighting; Nathaniel Higgins, second place in fighting; Brandon Murphy, third place in fighting; and Cassandra Doherty, third in fighting and third in forms.
