SIKESTON - One of Sikeston's most modern businesses - and one that is characteristic of the postwar world that has become a reality so suddenly - is the Robinson Airport, located just west of Harvey Parks Airport and owned by Don Robinson.

SIKESTON - The first bale of cotton from the Allen-Davis Gin Company was received Friday. It was grown by Bill Williams on the Thomas B. Allen Farm, and is a Fox four variety, planted the first week in April.

BENTON - The Bell City Olivers defeated the Benton Aces 1-0 last night when they rallied for their lone run in the fifth inning.

Aug. 24, 1985

SIKESTON - Girardeau Construction of Cape Girardeau was awarded the bid for the proposed airport construction project during a special meeting of the City Council Wednesday afternoon. It is hoped that construction will begin at the Sikeston Airport at the end of September, according to Jim Carney, city engineer and director of public works.

SIKESTON - The Special Operations Group and Criminal Investigations Department of Sikeston Public Safety arrested three individuals during a special burglary prevention detail conducted late Tuesday and early Wednesday. Early Wednesday morning, officers observed three subjects breaking into the Central Grocery Store on School Street. The men were apprehended inside the business after they had attempted to remove several items.

PARMA - Burt's Gals, a women's softball team based in Parma, recently presented their second place trophy to their sponsor, Robert "Burt" Lee of Lilbourn. The team which competes in the Dexter Women's Softball League, has also participated in a state tournament in Dexter, a regional tournament in the St. Louis area and has the opportunity to play in the Softball World Series in O'Fallon, Ill. Team members are Mary Hardin, Sue Eaton, Marsha Campbell, Tonja Pulling, Martha Miller, Christi Hicks, Sheila Hill, Lisa Kirk, Pam Richardson, Melanie Crow, coach Buck Breece and assistant coach Doyle Hicks.
