SIKESTON - A new stop light has been added to the corner of Malone Street and Kingshighway for the convenience of motorists.


LILBOURN - A reward of $1,000 has been offered for the arrest and conviction of the man who broke into the home of Mrs. G.T. Hawkins, 92, and attempted to assault her between 11 p.m. and midnight.

BLOOMFIELD - A dedication ceremony was conducted Thursday at the wood gasification system at the Lowe's Southern Clay plant north of Bloomfield. The new system, which burns approximately 200 tons of sawdust a day, is expected to reduce the company's energy cost by at least 20 percent. Tours of the plant were provided following the dedication.

CHARLESTON - Dave Dirks, solid waste planner with the Bootheel Regional Planning Commission, met with the County Commission to relay a message: Recycling will have to be an important part of their plans to comply with waste disposal regulations and the county will have to take an active role in the effort. Dirks, who is meeting with the six commissions making up the Bootheel Solid Waste Management Districts, said he would like to set up collection centers within the county.

SIKESTON - Four members of the Sikeston Sharks swim team recently earned medals in the 1995 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic swim meet in Des Moines, Iowa. Natalie Walter, Ben F. Marshall, Brooke Nelson and Megan Nelson earned the honors.

SIKESTON - Classes in the Scott County Central School District are set to begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday for all grades. Lunches will be served the first day of school for 70 cents for all students.
